Green Monster Smoothie

I am getting much better at making green smoothies! Initially I’d add pretty much my entire fridge to my smoothie because I didn’t know what tasted good with what and I figured the more the merrier right? Yea, No. The less the better I’ve found. You can really appreciate flavours when you focus on a few ingredients. Green smoothies are so great for you to – if you can’t juice your greens in the morning or during the day a green smoothie is your next best bet! I say this because juicing is actually more nutrient rich, especially when it comes to green juice, but not to worry green smoothies are packed full of rich nutrients to support that awesome bod of yours.

I currently enjoy my green smoothies with a bit of sweetness so I usually add a low glycemic fruit or two to add a bit of natural and healthy sugars. If your already evolved to enjoy green smoothies with just your greens – more power to you! Green smoothies are a great source of fibre and lower sugar than regular all fruit smoothies. You’ll get the energy you need, but your body will slowly release it through out the morning and day.

I feel it’s really important to add some extra superfoods and vitamins to your smoothies, even if you’re using all organic produce. The reason being that these produce may have travelled a far ways to get to your supermarket and into your kitchen and some of the nutrients it held when freshly picked half way accross the world got lost along the way. Don’t get my wrong, organic produce is FULL of vital nutrients and vitamins but it won’t hurt someone to add a bit of extra vitamin support.

Some of the extras I like to add are:
Chia Seeds
Flax Seeds
Lucuma Powder 
Acai Powder
Baobab Powder
Maca Powder
Chlorella
Spirulina

All of these and more are great additions to smoothies and don’t drastically change the taste of your rawesome smoothie. So get exploring, figure out what works for you and really enjoy your green smoothies!

Ingredients:
1 Cup green lettuce (I used Kale & Swiss Chard)
1/2 cup water
1/3 Cup pineapple (frozen if possible)
1 Banana (frozen if possible)
1/4 large cucumber
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp superfood (lucumca, maca, baobab, spirulina, chlorella)
2 tsp chia seeds

Method:
Remove the stems from the lettuce and slice your cucumber. Add all ingredients to your blender and mix until smooth. Pour into your favourite cup and enjoy awesome green energy for your morning!
