Event Feature: Get Back To Your Roots in the Smash Juice Bar Kitchen

I had the opportunity recently to attend a private media event held by Smash Juice Bar in their kitchen in Toronto to get the 411 on their soon-to-launch juice bar, cleanses and partnership with one of my all time fave kombucha companies Vams Kombucha! It was a whirlwind of a time and I’m really excited to share my experience with you.

I arrived to a warm welcome by Sarah, the manager of Marketing and Communications and was led to the large industrial kitchen in the basement of the building where their Nutritionist, Aly and Vannessa and Michael from Vams were waiting to inroduce me to a whole new way of juicing. I can’t even begin to describe my excitement when I entered the room, full of labeled fermented saurkraut and kimchi, keifer grains, freshly (cold-pressed) juices, the most delicious sour cream and onion kale chips and non-pumpkin pie. Of course I tried everything, because, well I couldn’t help myself! The non-pumpkin pie was incredible, the main ingredient being carrots (instead of pumpkin) but I promise you’d never tell! It was just delicious. The Smash team explained and showed me how their juicing process works with an example using their norwalk juicer. In actual production however they use a more industrialized version that can cold-press more produce at one time.

I then sat down with Aly for a quick one-on-one nutrition consultation for their one-day cleanse. She was fantastic and really knows her stuff! We went over what to expect on the cleanse, diet and allergy concerns and she gave me a broad scope into the nutrtitional content of the cleanse as well as the benefits of each ingredient chosen. She then served me up some delicious kale chips and their purify green juice which consists of lemon, cucumber, celery, green apple, parsley & ginger, all ingredients with the benefits to detox, accelerate digestion and help you glow from the inside out.

I moved onto the Vams area where Vanessa showed me their amazing stock of live probiotic kombucha, an entire wall of oversized mason jars filled with the most interesting and unique looking scoby and kombucha brews I have ever seen. To the right were fresh bottles of traditional kombucha, flavourful ingredients for second fermentation and to the bottom, giant brewing bottles in wicker-like baskets just brewing away. For those of you new to Kombucha, it is an insanely delicious and beneficial beverage full of healthy bacterial cultures and probiotics. It’s got a natural fizz and is a fantastic substitute to pop and soda. If you ever suffer from a sore tummy, indigestion or just need a few more good bacteria buddies in your gut, drink a bottle of Kombucha and your good to go! Vanessa was amazing, after speaking with her, you’d probably think that she invented Kombucha with all the knowledge she has and can share with you!

 The event concluded with a giant box filled with goodies and a 1 day cleanse to try. Needless to say, I left a very happy blogger! I’d met my ultimate kombucha idols, made friends with them and the entire Smash team, had some great laughs and really learned a lot as to what goes into starting a juice bar, creating and making cold-pressed juices, kombucha and keifer as well as all the work that goes into creating an amazing cleanse.
